Hello to all you delightful Alaska-curious types. So, let me say this straight up: I did not forget about you and I will not forget about how this all got started (the AK stuff). But as I’ve been a bit…how to put it…terrible at being consistent with this newsletter, I’ve given some thought this summer to the why of it all. I realized that I put some parameters on this whole shebang that, quite frankly, hemmed me brain in. Yes, I live in Alaska. Yes, I love to write about Alaska, Yes, this newsletter is currently Alaska focused. Much of that will continue but…

A GRAND RECONFIGURING IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN.

Here in Alaska is going to morph into And Venn Some, a newsletter that will still have strong AK elements (since this is where I live and the world I report on the most) but, because I don’t like to hold back when I think something is interesting, all topics will be on the table. It’ll be a general interest kind of shebang with a more-often-than-not focus of when topics collide. Sometimes it’ll be two topics or things, sometimes three. (More? Could be.) So art meets science. Or politics meets stupidity (ok, that one may be too easy). Or one kind of person meets another and makes glorious things happen. And because I am who I am (no, I am not Popeye), I will also just throw in other general-interest-magazine stuff.

Now, if you are a paid type and haven’t been a paid type for long (say less than six months), I do hope you’ll come along for the ride and be happy. But if you’re not happy with the change in, say, two months, let me know and I will send a refund your way.

The first real issue of And Venn Some (imagine the swag!) will hit your inbox on September 21. A new one will follow every two weeks. There will be reporting! Essays! Photos! The rebirth of a column I wrote about the backstory of nonfiction books many many moons ago for a, sadly, long-dead publication (RIP Pages)! Not many exclamation points! Whatever!

OK, now to figure out how to change all this Here in AK stuff to AND VENN SOME! Ooh, superhero newsletter vibes.
